Panzer Ace SS-Hauptsturmfuhrer Michael Wittmann is without question the most famous tank commander in the history of mechanized warfare. His astounding career embodies the perfect Panzer Ace legend: meticulous in planning, absolutely lethal in execution and with ice water flowing through his veins always cool under fire. Most of his “victories” were achieved as he and his dedicated crew hunted the frozen snow cover terrain and the muddied, undulating steppes of the hostile Eastern Front for more then a year in 1943 – 44.
This section is a pictorial tribute to the finest Panzer Ace – Tank Ace who ever lived, SS-Hauptsturmfuhrer Michael Wittmann. I felt compelled to create this tribute, my own “tip of the SS cap” to the Ace himself. I had great fun creating this section and I hope you enjoy your visit to The Wittmann Galleries.

"He was a fighter in every way, he lived and breathed action."
SS-Obergruppenfuhrer Sepp Dietrich after Wittmann's death.
