A superb example of the much sought after Third Reich - Wehrmacht cast aluminum eagle plaque. Most often used over Third Reich and Wehrmacht building entrances and also known to have been used on railway boxcars.
What makes this large eagle special is it's extra large 26" tip to tip wing span. Most examples of this type of eagle are only 24" across.
On the reverse between the legs are the maker’s marks: “LOK RZA 4 BLN” which mean:
- LOK = Locomotive
- RZA 4 = Reichszeugsamt 4 (State supply office #4)
- BLN = Berlin
On the reverse of the left wing is: “HE G AL Mg Si” which mean:
- HE = Siemens/Henschel (Hersteller)
- G AL Mg Si = Guss (finish or coating), Aluminium, Magnesium, Silizium (this is the international code for aluminum)
The detail on this eagle is sharp and crisp and it would make a fine addition to any Third Reich collection.
