Very nice Waffen SS / Army “Panzer Aerial Recognition Flag”. It is one sided and has a metal grommet in each corner. It is approx. 3 feet by 2 and 1/2 feet. Condition is excellent.
These German Vehicle Recognition flag were placed on vehicles so that German planes could tell where the German front line was.
Early in the war, the Germans used signal flags to identify German armor for the Luftwaffe, but the only officially documented flags were simply the national flag with the swastika emblem.
These flags could be identified because they lacked loops for hoisting and had loops on all four corners making them suitable for fixing on tanks.
