Nice example of the EK I / Iron Cross 1st Class / Eisernes Kreuz 1. Klasse. The pin is maker marked.

Production of the decoration was in progress until the end of the war. There were 450,000 decorations awarded.

The EK I was combined from three pieces. The front side of the frame is the same as with the Cross 2nd Class. Meanwhile the back side is a flat plate on which the mechanism for clasping is attached and also the badge and the bung, a screw and a lamella or disc. In most cases the frame was made from copper alloy, zinc and nickel or so-called “German silver”. The middle of the medal was from iron and also magnetic.
